High School Diploma

Newark Adult High School Diploma Program provides an opportunity for the student to work at his/her own pace with individualized instruction while completing high school requirements. The courses are selected to meet education requirements of the Newark Unified School District.

ENGLISH (1, 2, 3, 4) CORE

Courses will focus on the development of comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and writing skills as well as exposing students to a variety of literary genres.  Content Standards for Reading and Writing will be used as the basis for instruction.

 

SOCIAL STUDIES CORE

Courses offer a study of World History 1 & 2, United States History 1&2, American Government and Economics.  Students will view subjects from the perspective of the subject’s historical development in relationship to the United States and the world.

 

MATH/SCIENCE CORE

General Math focuses on Basic Math Skills as well as pre algebraic concepts.  Algebraic skills are further developed in Algebra 1.

Science courses will concentrate on Physical/Earth and Life sciences.  Content Standards will be used as the basis for instruction.

 

VISUAL/PERFORMING ARTS/ELECTIVES

Students will have an opportunity to select areas of study which include:  Visual & Performing Arts (Drawing/Analysis/History), Career Exploration, Geography, Culinary Arts, Psychology, Physical Development, Health, and Consumer/Business Math.  Students may also receive credit for parenting and/or employment of 1 year or more.  Courses in this area are completed on an independent study basis.
